Name searches also work but may take longer. The clerk can give you copies of dispositions, judgments, and case documents. Copy fees are $0.65 per page, $1.50 minimum. Certified copies cost $5.00 extra per document.

Court Records Access in Troy
New York court records are public by default. Judiciary Law Section 255 requires clerks to keep records in order and let the public inspect them. You can walk in and ask to see any unsealed case file. No reason needed.
The exceptions include sealed criminal records under CPL 160.50. Dismissed cases, acquittals, and certain other favorable outcomes lead to automatic sealing. Family Court records in Rensselaer County are largely confidential. Custody, juvenile, and child support cases are restricted to the parties. Matrimonial Supreme Court files are off limits to the public as well.
If you are denied access to records you believe are public, CPLR Article 78 provides a remedy. File a special proceeding in Supreme Court within four months of the denial. The clerk or court must then justify keeping the records closed.
